We are hearing more and more about Monkeypox (scientific term: Mpox). At present, however, the risk of contracting it, for all those residing in theEuropean Union is considered low or very low.
Regarding this, some experts from the Italian Society of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Public Health (SItI) have prepared recommendations available to anyone who wants to learn more.
It is good practice, therefore: to avoid direct contact with people who have Mpox-like skin lesions, to avoid contact with objects or clothing of an affected (or suspected infected) person, to wash hands frequently, and, finally, to monitor one's symptoms and the appearance of suspicious rashes within 21 days of risky contact.
In parallel, some recommendations for travelers were also disseminated . Avoid contact with wild animals (including primates and rodents), avoid sexual contact (or close contact) with individuals in whom recent infection is known (or otherwise suspected) (or who have been contact of Mpox cases), avoid sexual contact (or close contact) with individuals with suspicious skin lesions. It is always advisable to consult host country guidelines before travel.
